Summary
Camel(s) is the story of two acquaintances—a man and a woman, both with spouses elsewhere—who spend the weekend together at one of South Korea’s coastal resorts. As the narrative unfolds, the businessman and pharmacy clerk from Seoul, embark on their affair, yet they remain emotionally detached from one another. Although the film is marked by protracted scenes of banal activities such as driving, eating, and bathing, and features a script containing lengthy dialogue, it is with a masterful eye for detail and nuance that the director Kiyong Park successfully draws out the unspoken subtleties between the two individuals. Camel(s) demands the attention of a patient audience as it explores in unflinching honesty the complexity of human relations and the sense of disconnection that often comes from living in an urbanized environment.
