Summary

Petgar turns to the Iranian coverage of the 1999 eclipse being viewed by two billion people around the world. Iran has some of the best locations from which to view the event, and so the TV coverage is an event in and of itself. But for Petgar, it competes with a tiny event – a small sparrow in his backyard that is injured. The filmmaker moves his camera back and forth between these two real-time events, feeling torn about on which to focus. Watching what commentators are calling an expression of God and at the same time the injured sparrow – both natural events -- becomes a dual meditation for the filmmaker. Does the injury of a sparrow have anything to do with what some of world history, cultural tradition and literature consider an omen? Tags: Nature, Religion, Modernization
